Detailed information about the pils type of beer
Pils is the most common type of beer in Germany, accounting for about 65 % of the nation's output.
This is kind of strange though, as it is not a "real" German beer, because it was first served in the city of Pilsen in the Czech Republic, where it got its name from.
However, the brewer who made the first Pils in Pilsen on October 5th in the year 1842 was a German with the name Josef Groll.

A typical pilsener has a very light color and is clear. The average alcohol content of a Pilsner is about 4.8 percent.
There is a small difference in brewing techniques between German and Czech breweries and you can argue whose beers taste better.
The German pilseners are usually quite bitter while Czech pilseners have a lighter flavor.
Due to this fact, Germans often refer to beer brewed in other countries deprecatingly as "water".

Pils beers coming from Germany and the Czech Republic are very well known throughout the world and some brands are "Pilsner Urquell" (Czech), "Beck's" (Germany or "Veltins" (Germany).

Hangover risk: Varies, but acceptable
