Detailed information about the Weizen type of beer
Weizenbier (meaning wheat beer in English) is particularly popular in the South of Germany, in the states Bavaria and Baden-Wuerttemberg.
Another name for Weizen is Weisses or Weissbier (weiss is the German term for white), refering to its white crown of foam on the top.
Weissbier has an average alcohol content of about 5.4 percent and has a creamy texture and a light and sweet flavor.

Weizen beer is a part of the "typical Bavarian breakfast" also including white sausage and a pretzel.
There are two different type of weissbiers - Hefeweizen (yeast wheat) and Kristallweizen (crystal wheat).
A Hefeweizen is bottle-conditioned and sedimented and the beer looks cloudy.
Kristallweizen on the other hand is filtered and therefore has a very clear look (like a crystal, refering to its name).
Weizen is the typical drink of the Bavarian Oktoberfest and very popular in Southern Germany, although it gets more and more popular in the Northern states as well.

Weissbier is served in long, distinctive glasses with a wide mouth containing a half liter of beer.
Kristallweizen is also often served with a slice of lemon.
When pouring your beer from a bottle into the glass, make sure to hold the glass in a 45 degree angle and fill it carefully.

Hangover risk: Medium if you keep track of the amount of beer you drink and drink slowly
