Daily Usage of the German Flag

This article deals with the daily usage of the German flag.

The German flag is used in an entirely different way than the American flag. Here in the US you can see the American flag wherever you walk. Many people fly the flag in their backyards. In Germany, people do not seem to be proud of their flag.
Nobody wears t-shirts with their flag or flies the flag openly.
In fact, people look at you if you were strange if you do.
They think it's just not right to do so, because they're raised with this point of view.
As a normal American you probably ask why the Germans are so different.
If you ask them, they answer that this comes from World War 2. After that, Germans seem as if they are not allowed to be proud of their country anymore. Just because German patriotism went wrong once, you can not suppress the pride of an entire nation is what I think, but for the Germans their way of life without any national pride is normal.

I heard from many German tourists visiting the United States, that they are surprised by the way Americans show their pride. If you ask them why they are surprised and if they are not proud of their country, they look at each other and say that it is just different.
But I think what they want to say is that they still do not think it is right to be patriotic as a German.
